Biography:
Dr. Mohamed Adel Serhani received his Master in computer science (Specialization Software Engineering) from University of Montreal, Canada in 2002. He received the Ph.D. degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering in 2006, from Concordia University, Montreal, Canada. He is currently an assistant professor in college of Information Technology, U.A.E University, Al Ain, U.A.E. His research area is on Web Services Engineering that includes service selection and discovery, service lifecycle, QoS integration in SOA, End-to-End QoS management for Web services, QoS and Web services composition. He also worked on the application of artificial intelligence techniques mainly fuzzy logic to software engineering, object-oriented metrics, and software quality. He served as member of committee program and/or reviewer in the following conferences (IIT05, ISWS05, IIT06, IRMA06, IA06, CSA06, WCNC07, IADIS07, ICOMP07, GCA07,IADIS08, IIT08, etc.). He has published one book and around 40 papers in conferences, journals and book chapters. He has been involved in many projects during the last 6 years on the area of Software Engineering, E-commerce, and Web services.

Research Interests:
My research interests are on the areas of web services and distributed applications. It also covers the areas of software quality evaluation using AI techniques. My research on web services is divided into two main concerns: the first aspect focuses on Web services selection and discovery, End-to-End QoS guarantee in B2B application, QoS management support in web service oriented architecture (SOA), and Web services management in 3G Network. The second aspect concerns: B2B application integration and composition, Web Services composition management in e-commerce application, and mobile agent for monitoring Web services composition. In my earlier research project I have worked on software Quality prediction and evaluation using Metrics. We have been using Intelligent Artificial based approaches such as fuzzy logic, genetic algorithm, and Bayesian network to build a quality predictive model for software. I'm currently investigating in completing the development and the integration of general framework for Web services and QoS management which may will include also security management of Web services.

Teaching Interests:
I had several types of teaching opportunities during my professional career from situations where I was helping fellow undergraduate students, as laboratory instructor, to teaching graduate students. I have learnt something different from each of these situations, and I have accumulated various learning experiences. My teaching philosophy is based on the following principles, which I believe form the basics of modern education.
1. Help students discover methods for lifelong learning and develop a sense of responsibility to seek knowledge, and challenge them to think. 
2. Develop a systematic approach to problem solving. This is accomplished by equipping students with the skills and experience needed to identify, define, model, and solve problems. 
3. Instill in the students a curious mind, independent way of thinking, and the courage to explore alternative solutions.
4. Design labs assessments that reflect real world problems to help inspire students’ enthusiasm and enable them to learn and apply the theory taught in class.
5. Develop communication and teamwork skills. I will ask my students to do joint projects, which will help them develop the ability to work with and learn from their peers.
6. Finally, create communication channels with students, and be very friendly and very helpful.
Industrial Experience:
Serhani founded an IT company (TRECAM-NET) in 1997 and served as his IT director for 2 years. He worked also with many partners (CRIM, CIISE, University of Montreal, OFPPT). He served as IT consultant for 4 years in Montreal, Canada. His achievement in advising included feasibility studies, design and development of Web applications, Web services adoption.
