Biography:
Nazar Zaki holds a Ph.D. degree in Computer Science from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) Malaysia, where he received the Dean's awards for best Ph.D. student. He has more than 12 years of teaching experience and worked in various educational institutions before joining the Faculty of Information Technology, UAEU in 2004. He is currently an Associate Professor and a Coordinator of the Intelligent Systems Track and the founder/leader of the bioinformatics research team at the FIT. 

Dr. Zaki's research interest is on bioinformatics, data mining and machine learning. His research mainly focuses on developing intelligent machine learning and data mining algorithms to solve specific bioinformatics problems, such as protein homology detection, protein function/structure prediction, protein interaction network, and protein sequence classification. He has published many scientific papers in world class journals/conferences. He is a reviewer in many top reputed international journals such as Bioinformatics, Algorithms for Molecular Biology , Biochimie and BMC Bioinformatics. He is an editorial board member of the Biomedical Engineering Gateway and the International Journal on Innovative Computing. He was also a guest editor, Journal of Information Technology Research. 

Dr. Zaki  contributed to the training of highly qualified personnel, 2 Master students graduated under his supervision. He is currently a supervisor of 5 PhD students from the FIT, UAEU and Faculty of Computer Science and Information systems, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia. 

Dr Zaki received many scholarship awards such as the Faculty Recognition Award for Excellence in Scholarship in 2007 and best paper award from the World Congress on Engineering, Imperial College in 2008 and GECCO, Dublin, Ireland in 2011. 

Dr Zaki was one of the few members who established the Middle East Association of Healthcare Informatics (MEAHI) in UAE in 2005. He is currently a member of many other professional societies such as IEEE, ISMB, BO, APBioNET, IASTED, INFORMS, ICS and NBBnet.

Dr Zaki is a reviewer in many top reputed international journals such as Bioinformatics, Algorithms for Molecular Biology, Biochimie and  BMC Bioinformatics. He is an editorial board member of the Biomedical Engineering Gateway and the International Journal on Innovative Computing. Dr Zaki was also a guest editor, Journal of Information Technology Research.
